Defensive Pistol;
Tactics and practical exercises
THIS IS NOT AN NRA COURSE.To increase your confidence and ability to successfully defend yourself during an extremely stressful real life self defense situation, we recommend that if you have little or no experience with a handgun, that it is advisable to take training in addition to your Concealed Pistol License course.
The Defensive Pistol Course is a 4 plus hour course of advanced concealed carry, self defense, and shooting tactics. This course is specifically designed for those who already possess a concealed carry permit, and have some shooting experience.
As in the Personal Protection Outside the Home course; participants in this course must be at least 21 years of age and possess defensive pistol skills such as presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants must demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation.
Students should bring: Valid Michigan ID, copy of your certificate of completion of a CPL course, copy of your CPL, and any balance due.
Also required; Eye and ear protection, a safe operable handgun (no single actions), a suitable carry holster (no crossdraw or shoulder holsters allowed due to safety concerns.) and a good belt. At least two magazines (or speed-loaders) and carriers. 250 rounds of TARGET ammo (magnum loads are not allowed). A suitable hat or cap with brim (to deflect hot spent shells and prevent them from getting between your safety glasses and eyes). Wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions. Range time is outdoors for up to 4 hours.
