General information for the;
Personal Protection in the Home
(CPL) course:

  • The classroom and range is located at Rockford Sportsman’s Club: 11115 Northland Dr.
  • Coffee, water, & light snacks provided (one day classes include lunch).
  • Bring a notebook for notes, a pencil or pen, and a highlighter.
  • A student handbook and worksheets will be provided.
  • A Certificate of Completion requires;
    • Attendance of the entire course
    • Satisfactory completion of a written test and a 75+ round live-fire shooting course.
    • All range rules and safety commands are to be obeyed
    • A cooperative attitude is imperative. 
  • Bring a firearm that you are familiar with and that is in good working condition.
    • .22 rim-fire pistols are discouraged but allowed.
    • Derringers, mini-revolvers, single-action revolvers and anything made by Bryco, Raven, Lorcin, or Jennings are specifically not allowed!!
    • Third malfunction and pistol will be taken off the range.
    • We recommend bringing (not required); a ‘strong-side’ carry holster and two magazines or speed-loaders.
    • Rental guns are available with prior arrangement.
    • You will need 100 rounds of target ammunition.
    • No magnum rounds or reloaded ammunition allowed.
    • Eye and ear protection is required on the range.
    • Dress for the weather; Range time is outdoors.
    • Class also includes;
      • Presentation on the legal aspects of carrying and using a firearm by a local attorney or law enforcement officer.  
      • Approximately 3 hours of Range related activities
    • Classes fill up fast and size is limited; a $50 deposit will reserve your spot.
    • there are no refunds for cancellations.

    • This is not a beginner level course.  
                 You should be reasonably proficient with a handgun.

     We reserve the right to remove anyone from the course that
    demonstrates unfamiliarity with their firearm, less than basic
    proficiency, or an unsafe attitude.
